With over 35 years in the artificial lift field, Russell Stevens has specialized in design, optimization, and failure analysis for sucker rod lift systems. An accomplished problem-solver with demonstrated knowledge and experience, Stevens has helped oil & gas companies around the World initiate and implement programs that identify and reduce failures associated with the artificial lift system. Russell is highly competent in areas of materials selection, design and optimization, sucker rod inspection and quality systems, corrosion and failure cause analysis. Stevens is responsible for reciprocating rod lift design and optimization, training, and failure analysis. He is a member of SPE, NACE, ASM and API’s Sub-Committee 11 on “Field Operating Equipment.” He served on various API Task Groups concerning the specifications and recommended practices for pumping units, subsurface pumps and sucker rods and is the past chairman for the newly revised API 11B on sucker rod specifications. In 2014, Russell was the recipient of the JC Slonneger Award presented by the Southwestern Petroleum Short Course and sponsored by the Petroleum Industry of West Texas in cooperation with the Texas Tech’s Department of Petroleum Engineering.

Gary began his career in the oilfield after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University. With 22 years of experience in reciprocating rod lift (RRL), Gary has helped design and optimize RRL systems all over the world. He specializes in designing and optimizing deviated and directional wells and has helped developed rod guide product lines for Norris, NOV and Weatherford. He has expert knowledge of sucker rods, material selection, design optimization, guide placement and root cause failure analysis. He has developed RRL training programs including SROD and Rodstar design classes, sucker rod failure analysis, design optimization, sucker rod and rod guide material selection, rod guide well design, and care and handling.

Luke has more than 25 years of professional experience in manufacturing, including holding prior Plant Manager positions, with expertise in assessing operational flow, methods, equipment and people to build teams, developing strategy and executing action plans. He is passionate about implementing best practices while focusing on increasing efficiencies and problem solving.

He holds a Master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Florida Atlantic University, his Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, holds a Certificate for the Emotionally Intelligent Leader and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Mark Mitchell

Starting his career with Noble Drilling in 1978, Mark has over 40 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry with over 25 years directly in the artificial lift field. He specializes in rod lift applications with predictive designs, correct product selection, guide placement and failure analysis. Mark also has extended experience with subsurface pumps and their applications. Mark is recognized as being one of the best predictive rod design experts in the industry, helping his customers to optimize the entire artificial lift system. He can also recommend solutions for existing troublesome wells. Mark’s experience in Montana, North Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma and West Texas gives him a strong understanding of different environments and how to best optimize and design for challenging well bores.

Jim Hunter

With over 40 years in the oil and gas industry, Jim has extensive expertise in artificial lift applications specializing in rods and sub surface pumps. His experience is widespread. Jim’s knowledge from the New Mexico San Juan Basin, North Dakota Bakken, Utah Uinta Basin and oilfields in Eastern Colorado and California is valuable in his ability to suggest and optimize rod lift applications in a wide variety of well environments.

Jim started his career in 1978 in the sub surface pump shop with Oilwell Supply in Fort Morgan Colorado, he also worked as a store manager for The Bovaird Supply Company in Farmington NM. In 1992 Jim moved back to Denver to work for Norris rods and in 2007 he became Sales manager. In June of 2010 Jim and 6 of his co-workers started Rod Lift Consulting which later sold to Schlumberger. Jim joined US Rod Company in 2018 as National Sales Manager. Jim has developed many close friendships over the course of his career and has been an API member for 30 years and a SPE member for 25 years.
